Throwbacks Poker Players Raise $192.00 For

When you visit Throwbacks Sports Bar & Grill on Tuesday nights, there’s always an exciting poker game brewing in the back room. You will hear players laughing, high-fives smacking, and bad beat stories competing for sympathetic ears. You will see cards being clumsily dealt out to the blinds, smiles illuminating the room as pocket 2’s catches a set on the river, and the wonderful wait staff securing all the players needs. There are prizes given out, special promotions offered, and all types of great deals.

But what you don’t always see or hear on Tuesdays nights at Throwbacks is all the hard work and sacrifices that our players make in order to support a great charity and cause. Each night they sit down to play poker with Tucson Poker News, a percentage of all sales goes to the local charity Mini-Miracles is a 501 c 3 charity that uses mini-horses as a means of working with special needs children.

The players from Throwbacks Sports Bar & Grill were able to raise another nice check for Mini-Miracles last week as one of our players presented Becky, the founder of Mini-Miracles, a check for $192.00. Everyone had a great time supporting a great cause. Our goal is to raise double that next time, so we will call on more friends and family and other players to join us for a FREE and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em.

Unlike many other leagues and poker players, we don’t pretend to be experts at this wonderful game of poker. There are thousands of players in Tucson who believe they are as great as Phil Ivey or even Doyle Brunson. Many times, these are also the same players who attempt to boost their fragile egos by criticizing and chastising the moves of new and inexperienced poker players. Our games are cut from a different cloth. At Throwbacks on Tuesdays, our games are always about providing a fun and friendly atmosphere for players to help raise money for local charities. Our goal isn’t to create the biggest money prize pool, or win the most poker titles, or even to create future WSOP players. Instead, our goal is merely to use the game of poker as a vehicle to help raise awareness and funds for local charities who lack a lot of exposure. We play for the community, not poker bracelets.

This is why we would like to thank all the poker players who have struggled with us through all the growing pains in order to make these fundraising events possible. Special thanks to Jesse and Troy and Yazmynn and Chris and Bubba and Sean and Jaimie and Jeff and Mike for making certain that we never stray away from our fundraising mission and goals. It’s always the players who make these events possible. Thank you.
